He is At the Door

In Luke chapter 17 Jesus gave His disciples a brief description of how the world would look prior to His return. In Luke 17:26 Jesus says, “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man” and in verse 28 He says, “Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot”. In both these verses Jesus doesn’t focus on the sins of the world inhabitants in the days of Noah and Lot, which were abundant at those times, He focuses on their indifference toward God while they sinned. They just went about, “they were eating and drinking, marrying, buying and selling, planting and building” (vs. 27, 28).

In Noah’s day the Bible says, “The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually…the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence” (Genesis 6:5, 11-12)

Describing the depravity of humanity in Lot’s day, the Bible says, “the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave” (Genesis 18:20) In the New Testament letter of Jude we find more detail about the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah: “just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.”

Gathering from these verses we get a detailed description of what the earth would look like just before the return of Lord Jesus in judgment. In Matthew 24:33 Jesus says, “So also, when you see all these things, you know that He is near, at the door.”

Friends, if you haven’t repented (turned away) from your sins to follow Jesus as your Savior and King you should do so today. “As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15).

Believe and obey the Gospel which says, “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (Romans 10:9-10)
