About Me
I was born on a military base when my father was in Air Force – so I spent my first eight years in upstate, NY. My mother brought me and my siblings back to Baltimore when she and my father separated and divorced. We lived in the Cherry Hill Projects before finding a home in West Baltimore. In the late 60’s, crime and drugs were rampant but “fear of Mom” kept me away from many bad influences. As I grew up in single-parent home…men in my life were not examples of godliness; I saw some of them abuse my mother…one even tried to kill her. I experienced loneliness, insecurity, pain and immorality. Church was interesting, when I attended, but no one approached me with the Gospel.
I was about to leave for college in another state when my Aunt Annette stopped by my home to give me the Gospel…the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-3). I trusted in Him as my Savior and Lord. At college, As a new Christian, I wanted and needed Christian fellowship but couldn’t find it and began to look for love in all the wrong places. Through a series of discouraging events, God brought His “babe in Christ” back to Baltimore. God used challenges in my life to grow and call me to the church planting ministry with a passion to see the Word of God taught expositionally, and the biblical model of the family restored. Two of my favorite passages of Scripture are Ephesians 4:11-16 and 1 Peter 4:10-11.
My wife Debbie also grew up in West Baltimore and was a child of a broken home. Debbie was pregnant at the age of 12 and then again at the age of 13. Debbie and I were married at the age of 22 and began to experience life transformation through the teachings of God’s Word. We believe and have seen God do the same through others who have bowed their heart’s knee to the wonderful truths taught in the Bible.
Debbie and I have been married over 40 years. We have seven daughters and one son. Our children have blessed us with 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Ministry Statement: The Bible teaches in Ephesians chapter four that one of the responsibilities of the pastor-teacher is to “equip believers for the work of service that the Body of Christ might be built up.” Thus my personal calling is to help people to be transformed into the image of Christ…moving from spiritual darkness to light in the Lord (Matthew 28:19-20; Colossians 1:13) and from spiritual babes in Christ to mature believers (2 Peter 3:18) and relationally, as believers obey the over fifty “one another” commands found in the Scriptures. Simply put, I want to see lives changed for eternity.
I currently serve as Director of Ministry at the Baltimore Bible Church, which meets Sundays at 2pm at Valley Presbyterian Church in Towson, Maryland.
